A short trip to Kununurra this morning to check caravan parks and book a site. Most caravan parks up here don't take bookings but we do have an unpowered site for tomorrow with a possible upgrade to power. This CP is right on Lake Kununurra and it's very pretty with water lilies and reeds. We spoke to a couple of people who told us that the freshies are very visible at night with many pairs of eyes looking, looking… Don't think there'll be any night visits to the amenities block!
I'm still being bitten by little minuscule bugs that leave very irritating itches and I don't know about staying near the lake because there was a sign indicating that mosquito fogging was to happen on Thursday. Apparently, the chemical is safe to humans – where have we heard that one before? It’s a quick process and you stay in your caravan with windows and doors closed and wait for 10 minutes. We might go into town while that's happening.
Kununurra has a couple of shops that sell Kimberley diamonds. Window shopping was good and Robert and I both picked out some fine pieces. You know when the price isn't on show that things are going to be expensive. At least these diamonds aren't blood diamonds – if you've seen the film “Blood Diamond” you'll know what I mean. Great film with a confronting plot; excellent acting by Leonardo DiCaprio – legend!
Coles is the shop with the monopoly in Kununurra although we did see an IGA. The town has a population of 6000 so there are a few services here. I took the laptop and we drove around hoping to find a hot spot for connection to internet but no luck. Hopefully, the CP will have one.
I rang Mum and Dad and sent text to Jennifer to let them know where we are. I'm not homesick although it would be nice to see family and friends.
mini car and mini van at Lake Argyle |
We've seen so many different caravans and other mobile ‘homes’. Today, a very long bus with a car trailer carrying a Toyota Rav4 pulled up to book in. Yesterday, a bright, shiny fire-engine red bus with matching boat drove in. At the other extreme, a mini towing a very minute caravan stopped at the shop (see photos). Many older people (around our age and a bit older) have sold their homes and travel the country in a mobile home. We couldn't do it and I wouldn't want to anyway. It's a good thing that everyone is different.
Another film tonight – “Munich” with Eric Bana. Not a chick flick by any means! I didn’t bring many DVDs because we didn’t watch many last time we were away. It’s good to watch them together which is something rarely done at home because Robert’s not a film watcher – maybe he'll change his mind and watch some with me at home or even go to the pictures at Semaphore!
