August 30th 2011 Tuesday Betty's Visit

This afternoon I finally met another of Robert's ex-students from Croydon High. He's talked about Betty a lot and it was a real pleasure to get to know her. Betty lives and works in Darwin with Save The Children, which sounds like the sort of support organisation that is actually making a difference in the lives of indigenous people; there should be more like this.

We were both surprised with a special gift that Betty gave us of two carved birds made by her brother. She wanted us to have a special souvenir from our NT trip.

Robert was really happy to have finally caught up with Betty in person after many Face Book conversations and Betty made a point of thanking him for keeping in touch with many of his ex-students.

You know when you meet someone and after a couple of hours you feel as though you've known them forever? That's how I felt with Betty. I've got another NT friend now.
